Hands Only CPR/AED and Choking Class

FREE Hands Only CPR/AED & Choking for Adults and Children - 90 minute course

Instructor: Santa Clara County Fire Department Staff

Participants will learn how to perform high quality compressions on an adult and child, utilize an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and aid an adult or child who is choking. Most often, citizens will need to perform CPR on family, friends or co-workers. Learn how to perform proper compressions and use an AED in the precious moments before first responders arrive.

You will not learn breathing (head tilt, chin lift) in this class. You will not learn infant compressions or choking. If you wish to learn these skills you will need to enroll in a 4 hour CPR/AED class. See below.

Participants will not receive a two-year CPR/AED certification. This is not a Heartsaver CPR/AED class.

To take a CPR/AED class where you can receive a CPR card, go to one of these 3 website to find training classes: www.sccfd.org / www.heart.org / www.redcross.org

Campbell CERT is offering this FREE hands-on Stop The Bleed class and it is open to the public. Just as CPR saves lives, so does knowing how to stop a massive bleed (think trauma, mass shooter, bombings, etc). This 75-minute Stop the Bleed class is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

When disaster strikes, it may be days before emergency medical, police and fire arrive in your neighborhood. The purpose of this course in Personal Emergency Preparedness is to inform and prepare individuals to be self sufficient for days after an area wide emergency. This course will assist individuals and families to plan and be prepared in event of an emergency or disaster. The Personal Emergency Preparedness course is a 3-hour class designed for families to be able to survive the first 72 hours of a disaster.

Identify fall risks and learn simple and effective home modifications to prevent falls. Know what to do right after a fall occurs to your or a friend. Learn six steps to prevent falls and how medic alert systems (worn around the neck or a fixed box) can help. Get connected with community resources to maintain safety and wellness. Meet local firefighters and see the fire engine and equipment after class.

Instructor: Fire Dept.

This FREE 1-hour class is designed for residents who want to learn how to gain better balance and understand how to maintain their mobility into their later years. Attendees will also learn about calling for lift assists and what to do right after a fall. The information provided can be for all age groups.

All of us are Caregivers, we just don't know it - this class is for everyone!

The purpose of this class is to provide you with the knowledge and tools needed to help you and your family or your client(s) prepare for a medical emergency.

This class is for all types of caregivers: caregivers for the elderly or clients with access and functional needs, nannies, or babysitters.

Instructor: Santa Clara County Fire Department Staff

Program topics may include:

  • Your Role As a Caregiver During Emergencies: Learn what you will need to do to be an efficient and effective caregiver to handle a medical emergency.

  • How to Identify a Medical Emergency: What symptoms necessitate a 9-1-1 call for first responder assistance and why.

  • Understanding the EMS System: Identify and discuss how emergency resources are utilized within Santa Clara County.

  • Calling 9-1-1 in an Emergency: Learn what 7 questions a 9-1-1 Dispatcher needs answers to and how to be prepared to answer them.

  • Give Emergency Responders What They Need: Understanding what paramedics and firefighters need after they arrive on scene.

  • Be Prepared and communicate with your client: Obtain current medical information and create an emergency contact list. Learn about where you can register to become CPR and First Aid certified.

Class time: 10:00am to 11:30am.

Engine Tour: 11:30am to 12:00pm - Firefighters arrive for Q&A and to show the fire engine and equipment.
